Kite Tales 2016
Three years after her last adventure to the Chesapeake Bay (see
kitetales2013.blogspot.com),
Kite is embarking on another one - this time to the south of Jacksonville. In March, she plans to depart Jacksonville in company with another sailboat,
Ringle, a Hunter 356, toward the Florida Keys and eventually the Dry Tortugas, located in the Gulf of Mexico seventy miles west of Key West. Her planned route takes her down the east coast of Florida to Miami, and then west in the Hawk Channel through the Florida Keys to Key West, continuing westward to the islands of the Dry Tortugas, and then retrace the route back to Jacksonville. Although she plans to lie at anchor or in a marina nearly every night, there are no definite stopping points. These will depend on circumstances.
Lyn is currently planning provisions, and Peter is planning maintenance for the engine and rigging before departure. We have also invited Des to accompany us as crew. Des honored us in summer of 2015 by performing Dawn's wedding ceremony, and charmed us with tales of his nautical experiences. He has tentatively agreed, and we are looking forward to having the extra crew member along for the voyage.
Stay tuned for regular updates after the voyage begins!
